In one of our recent posts, we discussed in great detail how ISO certification helps VELXTech meet and exceed customer expectations. Thanks to our considerable investments in obtaining ISO 9001:2015 and ISO 14001:2015 certificates, our partners (and their partners) can rest assured that VELXTech is committed to manufacturing high-quality vape devices through processes and practices which do not harm the environment.
Today, we want to talk about other products certificates we hold. Again, the goal here is to ensure that all VELXTech vaping products meet all of the legal requirements that they need to be marketed and sold all over the world. Specifically, today we want to discuss three additional certificates, beside the ISO ones.
Those certificates are:
- CE marking – indicates conformity with health, safety, and environmental protection standards for products sold within the European Economic Area (EEA).
- RoHS certificate – restrictions on the use of specific hazardous materials found in electrical and electronic products.
- FCC marking – a US certificate that indicates that electromagnetic interference from the device is under limits approved by the Federal Communications Commission.
These three certificates allow us to market and sell our products in every EU country, as well as in the United States of America. You will find their respective signs/markings on every one of VELXTech products, which is how you can guarantee to your end customers that our products are completely safe for use.
Let’s take a closer look at all of these certificates; what they mean for VELXTech products and what they mean for the end-users of our CBD vaping devices.
CE Marking – The European Economic Area’s Mark of Conformity
While the CE marking is not required for every product that’s sold in the European Union, it is required for electronic devices. Our vape devices fit squarely into this category, which is why we have had to put in extra effort to obtain it if we wanted to sell our product on this specific market.
Obtaining a CE marking is not easy, In fact, there are 6 distinct steps that we had to go through in order to get it for all of our products. These steps included:
- Identifying requirements for a CE marking for our specific products
- Checking if we meet the requirements (and making changes if we didn’t)
- Checking if we need a 3rd party testing in order to get the certificate (we did)
- Testing the products to see if they conform to standards laid out in directives
- Compiling a technical dossier on every one of our products
- Marking all our products with the CE mark
As you can imagine, this took a lot of time and work on our part. Vaping devices are classified as electronic cigarettes, even if they are intended for use with CBD only. We had to go through numerous directives to figure out the exact requirements that we needed to conform with.
In the end, this is all worth it for VELXTech because our European customers appreciate the effort that we went through to ensure their safety when using our products. A CE mark is a clear indication that our vaping products conform with EU’s strict policies concerning health, safety, and the environment.
RoHS – EU’s Restriction of Hazardous Substances in Consumer Products
Although the RoHS certification was a requirement for obtaining the CE mark, we feel that it’s important to mention it separately in the context of vaping devices. This is especially true because there’s a lot of talk in the vaping industry about heavy metals – specifically, their impact on the health and wellbeing of people who vape either e-liquid or CBD.
RoHS – which is short for Restriction of Hazardous Substances – Directive aims to remove certain toxic compounds from all consumer products sold in the EU. If not completely remove, then, at least, reduce their use to a percentage that does not pose any danger to humans.
RoHS is frequently described as the “lead-free” directive but it actually targets 10 distinct chemical compounds. Those compounds are:
- Lead (Pb)
- Mercury (Hg)
- Cadmium (Cd)
- Hexavalent chromium (Cr6+)
- Polybrominated biphenyls (PBB)
- Polybrominated diphenyl ether (PBDE)
- Bis(2-ethylhexyl) phthalate (DEHP)
- Butyl benzyl phthalate (BBP)
- Dibutyl phthalate (DBP)
- Diisobutyl phthalate (DIBP)
Each of these compounds is highly toxic to humans, which is why they came under extreme scrutiny in the last ten years or so. Under EU RoHS regulation, no distinct component of any electronic device can contain more than 0.1% of 1000 ppm of any of them (the exception is cadmium, which is limited to 0.01% or 100 ppm) by weight.
We’ve all read the horror stories resulting from children’s toys that did not conform to this rule, which is why we’re more than determined to oblige by it. Considering the severe health impact these specific compounds have on human health, we wear our RoHS certificate as a badge of honor. We hope that it demonstrates that VELXTech’s primary concern is the wellbeing of CBD vapers around the world, which is why all our products (regardless of where they are sold) conform with RoHS stipulations.
FCC Certificate – Ensuring That Our Vape Devices Conform to Federal Communications Commission Standards
An FCC certification is a required US certification of all electronic devices. Basically, what it ensures is that the electronic radiation is within the acceptable norms set out by the FCC (Federal Communications Commission).
This is extremely important because there are some devices (wireless, medical devices, network frequencies) that are designed to operate in a certain frequency range. Other devices operating in the same range (if not intended and allowed) can disrupt their operation. That’s why each electronic device needs to be tested and certified, regardless of whether it was designed to emit electronic frequencies or not – because, by design not, every electronic device will emit some type of radiation. In some cases, interference can result in human casualties (emergency situations such as hurricanes, floods, and other natural disasters), which is why it’s important to keep on top of electronic devices and their frequencies.
VELXTech was more than willing to go through rigorous testing of our products in order to measure output frequency and to ensure compliance with the FCC regulations. This is one of the reasons why all our vape products can now be safely sold in every US market.
